In the business of woodworking, it?s important to enjoy the art of the craft, as well as satisfying the customers.

This is true for Gerald Hostetler, owner of Cedar Grove Woodworking.

?I was looking to do something at home, and I enjoy working with it,? Hostetler said, ?and after getting a kitchen done, it?s a nice sense of accomplishment.?

Cedar Grove Woodworking is located at 1840 110th Street, where Hostetler held an open house Jan. 28.

Hostetler, 27, first started his business in 2009 in his garage. He slowly started getting his name out, and in September, built his woodworking shop.

?I?ve been involved in construction since I was 16, on and off,? he said.

Cabinets

Hostetler?s primary focus in on cabinetry and custom cabinets for bathrooms and kitchens. He also has experience with end tables, toy boxes, cedar chests and trim work.

Even though it?s just Hostetler who owns the business, he had some help from his family with coming up with the name.

?I guess my brother actually kind of came up with it, being the location here, and we have quite a few cedars here,? Hostetler said.

Hostetler also does work with a contractor, so he?s currently not full-time with his business. One future goal of his would be to expand to full-time hours.

Hostetler said he likes the fact that he can be at home with his family while owning his own business, but sometimes it?s not always him deciding his own hours. It can also be when the deadline is and what?s in demand.

?In the business, sometimes they make your hours too, as far as that goes,? Hostetler said. ?You work to please the customers, they are your livelihood. I enjoy working with wood, as well.?
